AI, data, and digital
Using AI, data, and digital innovation to strengthen health systems and expand equitable access to care
Digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, are changing how health systems detect diseases, plan and deliver care, and monitor services. When designed with end users and guided by local evidence, they can help service providers make better decisions, reach more people, and strengthen access to quality health services. We work with governments, health leaders, and partners to turn data and digital technologies into practical solutions that improve health outcomes. Across our programs, we combine local insight, technical expertise, and global learning to help develop solutions that are relevant, responsible, and scalable.
Building the digital health foundation
We have more than two decades of experience supporting countries in their digital transformations. Through initiatives such as Digital Square and the Center of Digital and Data Excellence, we have worked on key digital health challenges, including fragmented systems, limited integration across digital health platforms, and gaps in technical capacity.
We are proud to have advanced the Digital Public Infrastructure for Health (DPI-H), supported digital public goods (DPGs), developed national digital health strategies, analyzed data-sharing ecosystems, hosted workforce capacity development programs, and more, leading to more connected and mature digital health ecosystems.
Global impact
Our global team brings together expertise in research and development, implementation science, and health systems innovation across AI, digital health, and data science. PATH's Global AI Lab focuses on two areas of research and innovation: AI4Science to accelerate product development, and conducting research and clinical trials to improve the safety and effectiveness of AI4Health.
Our global digital health and data team supports regional programs and global partnerships that strengthen digital health systems, expand data use, and advance equitable access to care.
Regional innovation centers
PATH's two Regional AI, Data, and Digital Health Innovation Centers in Africa and Asia-Pacific bring together technical expertise, implementation support, capacity strengthening, and regional collaboration to help countries accelerate digital transformation and improve health outcomes.
Through the centers, we are connecting local leadership with global knowledge and shared learning to strengthen sustainable, country-led innovation across health systems.
In India, we supported digital health adoption across more than 1,000 private clinics in Mumbai, helping generate 70,000+ electronic health records. The pilot helped demonstrate how private providers can participate in the country’s digital health mission and informed a government scale-up across 100+ targeted geographies.
In Kenya and Nigeria, we supported work to strengthen national health data repositories used to monitor programs, track patient outcomes, and guide public health decisions. This included piloting an assessment tool in Kenya and supporting governance documents and sustainability planning in Nigeria to strengthen long-term country ownership.
Through the AIDEA Tech Challenge, with the Asian Development Bank, we worked to identify AI-based screening and diagnostic solutions that are appropriate, affordable, and accessible across Asia and the Pacific. The initiative helps surface promising technologies and explore how AI can improve equity and access in diagnostics.
