The availability and accessibility of highly sensitive diagnostics tools are essential to management and elimination of tropical diseases.

PATH Diagnostics collaborates with partners to improve availability and access to diagnostic resources and tools for case management, elimination, and surveillance of malaria and neglected tropical diseases. This includes:

Tools and resources to support management, elimination and surveillance of malaria

  • Collaborating with partners to develop, evaluate, and commercialize rapid, highly sensitive tests to detect low-density malaria infections.
  • Collaborating with partners to develop, evaluate and commercialize point-of-care tests for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD) to guide treatment of patients with Plasmodium vivax malaria.
  • Providing biological materials and market and technology landscaping assistance to test developers to support the development and implementation of diagnostic testing.
  • Providing free access to a G6PD specimen repository, PATH developed controls and a proficiency panel to test developers to support the development and implementation of diagnostic testing.
  • Collaborating with partners to develop G6PD and malaria reagents for use in the development of malaria diagnostics.
  • Facilitating a community-based collaboration to advance the introduction and scale-up of G6PD diagnostics in support of safe access to radical cure treatment for Plasmodium vivax malaria through operations research.
  • Tools and protocols for the development and commercialization of new diagnostics to support malaria elimination and control.
