This is the newsletter of APHIA II Western, a USAID-funded project that aims to promote the adoption of healthier behaviors, increase the use of HIV and AIDS health services, and promote family planning/reproductive, maternal and child health, tuberculosis, and malaria prevention services in Western Kenya. It also aims to work with communities to enhance access to health services for pregnant mothers, comprehensive care for orphans and vulnerable children, and fight HIV-related stigma and discrimination and gender-based violence.

In an effort to support community interventions and health service utilization, APHIA II Western produces Jua Afya Yako, a community health newsletter, to help reinforce HIV and AIDS, reproductive health, tuberculosis, diarrhea, maternal and child health, and malaria messages passed through community outreach activities and health facilities; stimulate public discussions; reinforce behavior change; and promote use of health services.

This comic series is a joint initiative of two PATH projects, Scouting for Solutions and APHIA II Western. The comic book is designed to foster positive attitudes and perspectives that will help youth consider the quality of relationships they make, and make safe sexual choices to prevent HIV and AIDS and early pregnancy, fight gender discrimination and violence, and encourage involvement of parents in the lives of their children.

This document provides guidelines for implementing a procurement policy for safe injection and brings together issues that countries should consider when developing and implementing the procurement aspect of a national injection safety policy. The document points out issues to consider in transitioning from policy to implementation, regulatory factors, public-sector considerations, and the need to sensitize private-sector manufacturers. It also includes a landscape of manufacturers of safe injection equipment.

PATH and John Snow, Inc., developed these brief talking points on health care waste management to support advocacy efforts in order to raise awareness about why health care waste management is important and how programs can improve current practices.
