  1. PATH, in collaboration with the Epidemiology & Disease Control Division, Government of Nepal, and B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, is implementing a focused pharmacovigilance program for kala-azar, or visceral leishmaniasis (VL), in Nepal. The program aims to strengthen patient safety and care associated with the use of VL drugs. The results of the pharmacovigilance activities are summarized in this newsletter.

As part of PATH’s work in vaccine and pharmaceutical delivery technologies, this poster highlights PATH’s four-phase approach to designing a dissolvable microarray patch (MAP) for vaginal delivery of rilpivirine. In addition, the poster discusses the ways by which the approach has helped to define design requirements for an effective and discreet method (i.e., applicator) for delivering the long-lasting rilpivirine MAP for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis.

  3. As part of PATH’s work in vaccine and pharmaceutical delivery technologies, this poster presents results from a user-acceptability study of two microarray patches (MAPs) in South Africa. The MAPs under assessment were designed for the self-administration of antiretrovirals, such as rilpilvirine, and may someday offer a discreet and effective form of PrEP protection for women at risk of HIV.
