Country Representative, South Africa, and Director of Partnership Liaison, Africa Region

Nothemba Kula serves as PATH’s country representative for South Africa and director of partnership liaison for the Africa Region. In this dual role, she leads efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships, identify funding opportunities, and deepen engagement with key donors and stakeholders across the continent.

Ms. Kula brings extensive experience in public health and international development, with a strong track record in health systems strengthening, policy development, program implementation, and evaluation. She has successfully managed large-scale grants and led diverse teams across multiple countries. Her expertise in building public-private partnerships and navigating complex stakeholder landscapes has been instrumental in advancing health equity in the region.

Prior to joining PATH, Ms. Kula held leadership roles at organizations including the World Bank, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and the Southern African Development Community. Most recently, she served as deputy chief of party for the USAID-funded TB South Africa Project, where she provided technical oversight and led implementation efforts nationwide.

Ms. Kula holds a master of public health in health services management from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, a master of science in bioinformatics from the University of the Western Cape, and a master of science in microbiology and a bachelor of science from the University of Fort Hare in South Africa.
