Nguyen To Nhu, MD, MSc, PhD
Dr. Nguyen To Nhu is Director of PATH’s Southeast Asia Hub and Country Director for Vietnam, providing strategic leadership across PATH’s regional and country portfolio.
Dr. Nhu leads a broad portfolio of programs across PATH Southeast Asia focused on strengthening regional health security and pandemic preparedness, including integrated surveillance of emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance through a One Health approach. Her work also spans the prevention, elimination, and sustainable control of infectious diseases—including HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, and malaria—as well as health systems strengthening and primary health care. She also advances the Hub’s work on innovation and digital transformation, local leadership, and the adaptation and scale-up of proven solutions for sustainable health impact across the region.
A medical doctor and public health specialist, Dr. Nhu brings nearly 30 years of experience in public health program design, implementation, management, and scale-up. Her expertise includes disease surveillance, epidemic preparedness and response, health systems strengthening, and strategic program leadership. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with ministries of health, donors, technical agencies, and implementing partners in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia.
Dr. Nhu joined PATH in 2019, initially leading PATH’s epidemic preparedness and response and malaria portfolio in Southeast Asia. Since then, she has provided strategic and technical leadership across major regional and country programs and represented PATH in engagements with governments, donors, and international partners.
Prior to joining PATH, Dr. Nhu held senior leadership positions at FHI 360 Vietnam, including Deputy Country Director and Chief of Party of the USAID/PEPFAR-supported SHIFT project, where she led large-scale HIV and drug addiction treatment programs. Earlier in her career, she served as a medical officer and expert with Vietnam’s Ministry of Health.
Dr. Nhu holds an MD from Hanoi Medical University and an MSc and PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
