  3. Artemisinin-based combination therapy is considered the gold standard treatment for malaria, but global demand has often outpaced production, and pricing has been volatile. With funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, PATH and our partners set out to develop a new pharmaceutical manufacturing process to produce commercial volumes of high-quality, nonseasonal, and affordable artemisinin to supplement the plant-based supply.
