  2. This fact sheet provides an overview of PATH's work in developing fast-dissolving tablet vaccine formulations manufactured using a standard lyophilization process. The tablets are packaged in unit-dose blisters, offering an inexpensive, scalable, and easy-to-use presentation for live attenuated vaccines containing single or multiple bacterial strains. Further, the stackable design may minimize product volume and thus the space required for storage and transport, resulting in significant savings for health systems and cold chains.

  5. An expert consultation was held in April 2015 to review equipment solutions to the problem of vaccines being exposed to sub-zero temperatures while being transported in passive vaccine carriers. Experts compared different approaches and reviewed three novel technology solutions: a freeze-safe vaccine carrier, phase-change material coolant packs, and a phase-change material sleeve. In addition, participants helped develop a generic evaluation framework for assessing these and other innovative approaches, and outlined the steps necessary to get them to market.
