PATH at AIDS 2026
Building resilient, integrated, people-centered systems to sustain HIV progress and advance Universal Health Coverage.

The 26th International AIDS Conference will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and virtually, from July 26–31, 2026, at a pivotal moment in the HIV response dialogue. Reflecting the theme, “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise,” the conference comes as HIV response faces significant challenges, including shifts in global health financing that are affecting HIV services, particularly prevention and community-led programs, and growing threats to human rights. These combined threats have placed the HIV response at a critical crossroads, threatening to reverse progress toward HIV epidemic control.
As countries navigate new financing and operational realities, there is an opportunity to rethink how HIV services are funded and delivered—building on integrated delivery platforms and systems while advancing approaches that put communities at the center of the response.
Integrated, people-centered models that embed HIV services within primary health care will be central to sustaining progress towards 2030 global goals, reaching communities who remain underserved, and strengthening health systems for the future.
At AIDS 2026, PATH experts will highlight practical approaches to sustaining prevention through mixed financing, diagnostic and care innovations, and integrated models of care; advancing triple elimination through differentiated maternal and newborn health platforms; and strengthening resilient health systems through community leadership, multisectoral partnerships, and locally driven evidence.

Join this dynamic pre-conference session as we reflect on the state of triple elimination, explore differentiated models of bundled care across the antenatal to postnatal continuum, strategize on systematic introduction of the latest innovations in prevention and diagnostics, and discuss how community leadership, sustainable financing, and cross-sector collaboration can accelerate integrated triple elimination programs.
Dr. Kimberly Green and Dr. Albert Komba will serve as pre-conference co-chairs and frame the need for and opportunities that integrated triple elimination programs built upon primary health care platforms present for facilitating people-centered, life-course-based care for mothers, newborns, and families. Abha Patil will outline key market-related barriers preventing uptake and continued use of emerging or underused HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis commodities and plans through the Unitaid-funded SAFEStart+ initiative to improve availability of these products across low-and middle-income countries.

World Hepatitis Day: Breaking down barriers to accelerate hepatitis elimination

This high-level commemoration will be convened on World Hepatitis Day to mobilize political leadership, strengthen partnerships, and advance progress towards ending viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. The event will provide a platform for dialogue on expanding access to hepatitis prevention, testing, and treatment services and addressing barriers that continue to hinder progress.
Dr. Kimberly Green will participate as a speaker on a high-level interactive partner panel at the event, sharing lessons from PATH’s efforts through Unitaid-funded investments to enhance equitable access to hepatitis B and hepatitis C services by scaling integrated, people-centered care models and emerging product innovations.

Russia's full-scale war has severely impacted Ukraine’s health system, damaging or destroying health facilities, intensifying workforce shortages, and making access to health care impossible due to ongoing security threats. Despite these challenges, Ukraine's government has remained committed to HIV epidemic control. This session examines barriers to HIV service delivery in armed conflict, with implementers presenting effective interventions for engaging vulnerable populations in testing and care and discussing how public sector and civil society collaboration has ensured continuity across the HIV care continuum.
Svitlana Leontieva will share strategies implemented through the U.S. Government-funded REACH 95 project to decentralize and differentiate delivery of HIV testing, linkage to care, and treatment services at primary health care facilities in Ukraine.

The Lancet Global Health Commission on People-Centered Care for Universal Health Coverage is developing a definition and operational framework for people-centered care that can be applied across health conditions, health systems, and income settings. This session, a follow-on to a January 2026 regional discussion held at the Prince Mahidol Award Conference, will serve as a participatory “framework testing lab”. It will introduce the Commission’s emerging definition and operational framework for people-centered care, then invite participants to test, challenge, and refine the framework using their own experiences.
Dr. Kimberly Green will share reflections on operationalizing people-centered care for Universal Health Coverage as well as facilitate the discussion lab on policy translation and systems change, while Davina Canagasabey will provide closing reflections.

This workshop aims to move from identifying barriers to defining concrete actions that could help accelerate the market entry and country-level roll-out of future HIV products, particularly in middle-income countries and other settings that may fall outside traditional multilateral support mechanisms. Workshop discussions will focus on three friction points that delay access—regulatory; manufacturing and licensing, and demand and delivery—with participants identifying practical, actionable steps that could be advanced over the next 12–24 months to inform development of a costed roadmap.
