In 2016, PATH earned its twelfth consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the largest independent charity watchdog in the United States. Less than 1 percent of rated nonprofits can say the same.
This means we consistently hit the target in the two areas Charity Navigator evaluates: financial stewardship and accountability/transparency. It’s validation that we use your gifts efficiently and effectively to improve health around the globe and give hundreds of millions of people an equal chance for a healthy life.
We’re proud of our impact and the four-star record that supports it. And we’re grateful that you trust us to use your gifts wisely.

In honor of PATH’s twelfth consecutive four-star rating, here are 12 things we do every day to earn and retain your trust:
1. Programs come first. In 2015, 85.9 percent of the funds we spent went to our global health programs.
2. We’re frugal fundraisers. For every dollar we raised in 2015, we spent less than 1.5 cents on fundraising activities.
3. We want you to know us. Looking for information about our finances? It’s right on our website, along with information about recent milestones.

4. We mind the GAAP. Independent auditors scrutinize our operations to ensure we minimize risk and comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
5. The buck stops with our board. Our diverse, deeply invested board of directors—an international team of experts in global health, business, government, and more—guides and oversees our work.
6. We live by a code. PATH is committed to lawful, responsible, and ethical behavior in all of our activities. It’s all spelled out in our code of ethics and backed up by our policies of conduct.

7. We go big or go home. We aim to reach hundreds of millions of people with our interventions, and we do—an average of 150 million per year.
8. Countries’ top priorities are our top priorities. Over half of PATH’s staff members live and work in the countries we serve, so we can tackle the issues countries identify as their highest priorities.
9. Partnership is in our DNA. PATH works with more than 2,000 global partners—businesses, nonprofits, researchers, community groups, foundations, governments, and other organizations—to make good health accessible to everyone.

10. We’re invested in the long game. We develop sustainable solutions to give people the tools to transform their own health and futures so the work continues after PATH’s involvement ends.
11. We nurture local solutions. We partner with local innovators in the countries where we work, because the best solutions often come from people closest to the challenges.

12. We don’t take our donors’ support for granted. Our pledge to our donors spells out how we work to make sure your gift has the greatest impact possible.
Everyone at PATH is immensely grateful for the support of our donors, and we will continue to work every day to earn that support. Please join us as we bring health within reach for everyone, no matter where they live.
