This is a handout of a poster presented at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria, in July 2010. The document presents evidence concerning the effect of breastfeeding avoidance and early cessation on child mortality and HIV-free survival in developing countries.

In July 2010, project Optimize held workshops in Washington, DC, and Seattle, WA, to engage stakeholders from a wide variety of organizations. The workshops discussed developing-country immunization systems and sought participant perspectives on the desired future state of the systems. This document provides a summary of the workshops.

This poster describes the AV Avantage HPV E6 Test and the results from a small clinical pilot study. The AV Avantage HPV E6 Test uses high affinity mAb for the specific capture and detection of high-risk HPV-E6 oncoproteins in a lateral flow–based format. Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is intended to prevent cervical cancer. As part of project Optimize, a two-year HPV vaccine demonstration project is being conducted to demonstrate how existing delivery systems can be adapted to successfully provide HPV vaccine to young adolescent girls. HPV vaccine is a strong candidate for out-of-the-cold-chain use given its characteristics of high heat stability and freeze sensitivity.

PATH conducted a market study in 2008 to identify neonatal resuscitators available in the Southern African Development Community region. These resuscitators are included in this region-specific version of Practical Selection of Neonatal Resuscitators. All resuscitators identified were bag-and-mask designs. Also included are two devices that offer a tube-and-mask design. This guide presents the criteria used during the device evaluation, evaluation results for each device, and suggestions for choosing a resuscitator. The guide is available in two formats: one for booklet-style printing and one for onscreen viewing.
