At this year’s conference of the Network of African Parliamentary Committees on Health (NEAPACOH), PATH delegates will join other partners and political leaders from the continent to discuss how to accelerate progress towards the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The conference will be held in Maseru, the capital city of Lesotho, from February 28th to 29th, 2024.
NEAPACOH conference is an annual convening, which has been running for the last 15 years, under the auspices of the Africa Regional Office of Partners in Population and Development (PPD ARO) based in Kampala, Uganda. The 2024 conference is held under the theme, ‘Towards International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD 30) and achievement of Universal Health Coverage: Imperatives for accelerated implementation and the role of Parliamentarians’.
The conference theme aligns with PATH’s campaign that focuses on accelerating UHC by supporting people-centered demand-driven innovation; secure paperless health systems; sustainable integrated health services; and locally-produced medicines and devices.
At the conference, PATH will elevate critical voices in favor of Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) and immunization. Find below more details about PATH-involved sessions at the 15th #NEAPACOH.

Session II: Towards ICPD30 and achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
Day 1, Wednesday, February 28, 2024, 11:00am – 12:00pm
PATH Uganda Country Director, Dr. Betty Mirembe will be joining the steering panel and will speak on the topic: ‘Reimagining MNCH and Immunization as vital catalysts for advancing the UHC agenda, why now?’
The session aims to share learnings, evidence as well as increase the knowledge and appreciation by policy and decision makers on the policy and programme practices for implementation of the ICPD agenda and attainment of UHC.
Session III: Achieving the Universal Health Coverage (UHC): The key imperatives
Day 1, Wednesday, February 28, 2024, 2:00 – 3:00pm
PATH’s Global MNCH and Immunization Advocacy Lead, Esther Nasikye, will join the steering panel and speak on the topic: ‘Accelerating accountability for commitments made towards financing for immunization and MNCH in Africa, as building blocks for UHC’.
The session aims to share learnings, evidence, innovative and cost-effective practices and programmes for accelerating achievement of UHC.
During the session, PATH will share evidence that was collected from 10 Africa countries regarding progress in implementation of the second Addis Declaration on Immunization (ADI) commitment on immunization financing. With such compelling evidence presented, PATH expects to solicit political commitment from the Members of Parliament from NEAPACOH countries to advance a continental-wide agenda to accelerate implementation of ADI commitments, as well as global and regional commitments geared towards ending preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
By raising our voice on the table with key decision and policy makers from across the African continent, we believe we will be able to generate the right momentum for political and technical leadership in Africa, to strengthen commitment and accountability for health with a focus on immunisation and MNCH, especially in regard to reaching children who have not received a single vaccine in their lifetime and ending preventable maternal and newborn mortality.
