Countries in the “Global South” face shared challenges often exacerbated by socioeconomic inequalities, limited resources, and geopolitical uncertainties.
As a result, these countries have historically been limited to supporting roles in global decision-making around human health. However, over the last two decades, Global South countries have grown in geopolitical and economical significance, and are now transitioning to active contributors within international order and global governance. Put simply, this global imbalance is organically going through a long due correction.
To advocate for its collective interests, to gain adequate negotiating power at the table, and to push for reform in contemporary global health agenda, the Global South countries need easy access to knowledge on the global policies being framed, and general direction of global health priorities.
The Global South Research Collaborative (GSRC) is a platform co-founded by PATH and the Institute of Competitiveness, which is open to likeminded co-hosts, aiming to catalyze research and nurture cross-learning and collaboration through sharing of knowledge, expertise and best practices in and with Global South countries.
As part of GSRC, we launch the Simplified Series with the aim of presenting complex health topics of global interest in a simplified form. Through this platform, we will disseminate knowledge via a strategic mix of virtual and in-person exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices in an accessible manner.
This platform will help formulate collaborative solutions to common challenges, strengthen the voices of Global South countries in international forums, and prepare local champions by equipping everyone with actionable knowledge.

Webinar 3: Funding and funders in health | Simplified
Historically, investment information for global health in the Global South has been scattered and opaque, creating a significant barrier for local, especially grassroots, organizations. Recent years have seen the funding landscape rapidly evolve and diversify; yet accessing critical knowledge about who is funding what, and how, remains a complex challenge.
In the third webinar of the GSRC Simplified series, we unpack the mechanisms and modalities that bridge the information gap between funders, nonprofits, and other health implementers in the Global South. The webinar offers participants insights into global health funding mechanisms, focusing on how to identify and understand the diverse types of funders, including Foundations, Charities, High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNIs), Official Development Assistance (ODA), and others; and what to expect from this dynamic investment environment.

Webinar 2: Health at UNFCCC COP | Simplified
Historically, health has been a peripheral issue in UNFCCC COP negotiations, but recent years have seen a critical shift—health is now recognized as central to climate action. COP28 in Dubai, UAE was a landmark moment in furthering the discussions on climate and health, hosting the summit's first-ever Health Day.
In the second webinar of the Simplified series, we unpack the deliberations and discussions that bridged the gap between health and climate at the COP summits. The webinar offers participants insights into the trajectory of health at COP, discussions on health co-benefits in climate mitigation, and what to expect from COP30.

With learnings from the global COVID-19 pandemic management and response, the World Health Organization’s 194 Member States initiated a process to develop and negotiate an accord on Pandemic Preparedness and Response.
The proposed accord is centered on ensuring fairness in access to pandemic-prevention resources and health care for all. However, since ideation, the accord discussion continues to resolve complex global health governance issues, equity concerns, and legal frameworks.
In the first webinar of the series, we will simplify the pandemic accord and its key areas of negotiation and discussion.
