PATH statement on the continuing violence in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank

February 6, 2024 by PATH

We are profoundly saddened by the ongoing violence, loss of life, and tremendous suffering in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank. Each day the crisis continues, more civilians are killed, health inequities deepen, and humanity is pushed farther away from achieving peace and prosperity.

All people have a right to safety, human dignity, and access to health services. Yet, since October 7, 2023, more than 700 attacks have been made on people accessing medical services, on health facilities and personnel, and during the delivery of essential health supplies. Health facilities must be safe for all who provide and seek care and fully supplied to respond to this catastrophic health crisis. Failing to protect civilians and ensure safe passage for humanitarian aid is condemnable by international law.

Along with our partners, we join the call for an immediate ceasefire and release of all hostages. We hope for a resolution that ends violence, prevents loss of life, and restores the critical health services and support that everyone, everywhere, deserves.
