PATH Kenya welcomes two new board members

PATH Kenya has announced the appointment of Dr. Njeri Gitau and Dr. William Mwiti Muriira to its Board of Directors, further strengthening its leadership in driving health innovation and equity.

PATH Kenya is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Njeri Gitau and Dr. William Mwiti Muriira to its Board of Directors. Their combined expertise in health policy, pharmaceutical medicine, and systems strengthening will play a pivotal role in advancing PATH Kenya’s mission to improve health equity and innovation across the region.

Dr. Njeri Gitau is an award-winning public health specialist and influential leader with a track record of expanding access to quality health care across Africa. Currently serving as Health Policy and Access Partner, East Africa, at Roche, she has held senior roles with the government of Kenya, the World Bank Group, and Amref Health Africa. Her leadership has driven transformative initiatives, including universal health coverage, reforms to the National Hospital Insurance Fund (now known as the Social Health Insurance Fund), and the establishment of the Kenya National Public Health Institute. She also serves on global advisory committees for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and the Global Fund and is an adjunct faculty member at Strathmore University Business School.

Dr. William Mwiti Muriira is a globally respected pharmaceutical physician and certified global risk leader with more than 20 years of experience advancing equitable access to medicines. As AstraZeneca’s BioPharma Business Unit Head for sub-Saharan and French-speaking markets, he has led strategic initiatives to improve vaccine access and strengthen health systems. Previously, at GlaxoSmithKline, he played a key role in introducing lifesaving vaccines across eastern Africa and shaping governance and compliance frameworks for medical affairs globally. Dr. Mwiti is also an Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow and the first East African inducted as a Fellow of the UK’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine.

Welcoming the new members, Dr. Nanthalile Mugala, PATH Kenya board Chair, said, “We are thrilled to have Dr. Gitau and Dr. Mwiti join our board. Their deep expertise and visionary leadership will strengthen PATH Kenya’s ability to innovate and scale solutions that improve health outcomes for communities across Kenya and the region.”

At the same time, PATH Kenya extends heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Dr. James Nyikal and Dr. Jacqueline W. Kitulu, whose board tenure concluded in 2025 after six years of dedicated service. Their leadership and commitment have been instrumental in guiding PATH Kenya’s mission to improve health equity.

While strengthening national and subnational health systems, PATH Kenya works in the areas of digital health, epidemic preparedness and response, market dynamics, vaccines and immunization, noncommunicable diseases, and maternal, newborn, and child health.
