Community health at center of Global Health Council conference
Thousands of people will gather in Washington, DC, next week to explore new ways of addressing the health needs of individuals, families, and communities around the world—and to share lessons learned on the front lines of global health.
The Global Health Council is hosting the 35th annual International Conference on Global Health from May 27 to May 31, 2008. This year’s theme is “Community health: delivering, serving, engaging, leading.” More than 30 PATH staff will join our colleagues from around the world to engage in an open and unfettered exchange of ideas and approaches that is so vital to our work.
A community of global health professionals
The Global Health Council is the world’s largest membership organization dedicated to saving lives by improving health throughout the world. Its members include health care professionals, nongovernmental organizations, foundations, corporations, government agencies, and academic institutions that work to ensure global health for all. Over the past 35 years, thousands of public health professionals from almost 100 countries have gathered for the Global Health Council’s annual conference.
PATH at the conference
As a leader in the battle against malaria, the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative is co-hosting an auxiliary session entitled “Moving Toward Eradication: Malaria’s Next Frontiers,” in combination with the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs and Jhpiego. The session will discuss developing new tools, promoting research, and strengthening health systems to eradicate the disease.
In addition, PATH staff are participating in panel and roundtable sessions about women’s reproductive health, gender-based violence, HIV prevention, malaria, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, and caring for newborns.
