Driving better health decisions with better data
Around the world, too many people are making health decisions without access to the right information. Better use of better data improves health care at every level: Parents can receive the information they need to keep their children healthy. Health workers can better track and manage supplies, deliver services, and treat patients. Administrators can target supplies and staff to the areas that need them most. And policymakers can monitor and measure health impact and use current evidence to budget and plan.
PATH is a leader in the development of information and communication technologies that address user requirements and are sensitive to the context in which they are used. Our approach is collaborative and based on user-driven design. We solve real-world problems with low-cost innovative solutions by working alongside care providers and patients at all levels of the health system, focusing on their needs and goals. Together, we identify and tailor appropriate information and communication technology solutions.
PATH supports digital health governance, data quality, and use of data for decision-making. We also combine practices and products so they can be scaled and replicated in other regions and countries.
A marriage of digital expertise with country experience
Key to our work is the marriage of software development know-how and a deep understanding of the health challenges on the ground. We work across health areas, such as immunization, supply chain, maternal and child health, and insurance to identify and address information management needs and improve data-driven decision-making.
For example, our BID initiative originally focused on developing digital immunization registries in Tanzania and Zambia, where we have a long-standing presence. The platform we developed in partnership with these two countries is now being adopted and adapted in other countries. Meanwhile, the early architecture can also support additional uses related to HIV, reproductive health, and more.
PATH builds both tools and capacity, depending on the need. Our efforts range from a digital application that ensures human breast milk is safely pasteurized to community-developed videos on pressing health issues to supporting countries in tracking epidemics through data use for decision-making.
It’s not digital health. It’s just health.
PATH is a pioneer of new approaches, methodologies, and guidance, and we remain objective about the technology used. This makes us a trusted partner to governments, donors, and multilateral organizations. Ultimately, we believe that when the right information is in the right hands, every country can overcome its health challenges.
