Seattle, March 28, 2017—PATH welcomes Carla Sandine in the newly created position of Chief Communications Officer, based in Seattle. Sandine will head the organization's marketing and communications functions, helping to drive greater integration across all of PATH's marketing disciplines—and increasing visibility around the organization's ongoing work to save lives and improve global health.

"Carla brings a unique passion for social justice, evident throughout her career, combined with the creativity and tenacity to drive new ways of communicating around issues that don't always make the headlines," said Mark Murray, Vice President of Global Engagement and Communications. "Her range and depth of experience will help PATH to knit our communications functions together into a truly integrated effort, and break new ground on how we communicate into the future."

A Seattle native, Sandine has close ties to the city's computer revolution in the early 1980s. Her father, Jeff Sandine, was the founder and original CEO of Ballard Computer, one of Seattle's first major computer retailers, established in 1984. PATH, known for its focus on leveraging technology and innovation in the global health space, bought some of its first desktops from Ballard Computer in the 1980s.

"Joining PATH, on one hand, was obvious," Sandine said. "It is one of few organizations that I would jump at a chance to work with. But on the other hand it meant making hard decisions about the business that I've built and grown."

In 2011, Sandine founded Highway Twenty, a digital marketing firm based in Phoenix. The firm grew rapidly, with sales doubling and tripling each year between 2011 and 2015. The agency provided strategy and research, branding, design and development, and digital marketing for a wide range of non-profit, non-governmental and governmental organizations, as well as foundations, political campaigns, and corporate clients.

As part of her transition to join the PATH team, Sandine sold Highway Twenty to a content marketing firm, Casual Astronaut, known for their work with global brands and academic institutions, including The Ritz-Carlton, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Starwood Hotels, Phoenix Children's Hospital Foundation, Ochsner Health System and the University of Arizona.

Prior to founding Highway Twenty, Sandine served as a Public Affairs Officer and spokesperson for the International Rescue Committee in Phoenix. Sandine was named one of Arizona's top 35 entrepreneurs under 35 in 2013 by The Arizona Republic. In 2014, she was the youngest speaker at The Arizona Leadership Forum, an exclusive, statewide gathering of C-level executives. In 2015, she was named one of the Phoenix Suns & National Bank of Arizona's Amazing Women.
