Our thoughts are with Indonesia

May 29, 2006 by PATH

Our heartfelt sympathies and best wishes go out to the earthquake victims in Indonesia and to their families, many of whom are surely our partners and friends.

As far as we can tell our staff in the region are safe—this is a great relief to us. As early as Sunday morning, May 28, our senior technical director in Indonesia, Anton Widjaya, emailed us with the news we were anxious to get, and he added: “So far our colleagues at the provincial health office that I could contact are safe, but some have to live with relatives because their houses were damaged. Electricity in most parts is still out and also telecommunications . . .”

PATH is prepared to be a resource to our friends and colleagues in the region who will be tasked, once again, with an important and challenging recovery and rebuilding of health systems. Meanwhile, many of our sister organizations from here in the Pacific Northwest and other fine international nonprofits are providing relief to the region, if you’d like to help.
