Seattle, Washington, February 2, 2007—Jacqueline Sherris, PhD, has been named vice president, program strategy and impact at PATH, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health around the world.

As a member of PATH’s executive leadership team, Dr. Sherris will oversee PATH’s global programs, which include HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis, Immunization Solutions, Malaria Vaccine Initiative, Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition, Meningitis Vaccine Project, Reproductive Health, Technology Solutions, and Vaccine Development. Dr. Sherris will also be responsible for leading PATH’s efforts to measure impact and monitor the results of its work.

“After conducting a worldwide search that brought us a number of exceptional candidates, we found the ideal candidate to lead our global programs right here in our midst. I am delighted to have Jackie join our leadership,” said PATH president Christopher Elias, MD, MPH.

Dr. Sherris’s assignment to this newly created role at PATH is part of a distinguished career in global health. She has served in a number of leadership roles within PATH for nearly 20 years. For the past five years, she has served as leader of PATH’s Reproductive Health Strategic Program. In this role, she has led PATH’s work with the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition, the Alliance for Cervical Cancer Prevention, and introduction of the HPV vaccine in developing countries. She has been a relentless advocate for global health programs to improve the health of women and children in the developing world.

Dr. Sherris is a respected member of the External Advisory Board for the University of Washington’s School of Public Health and Community Medicine. She is an affiliate assistant professor at the university as well and led a Mellon Foundation-funded partnership that fostered linkages between PATH staff, students, and faculty in strengthening a range of field projects. Before joining PATH, she served as a staff associate with the Population Information Program at The Johns Hopkins University, where she authored several issues of Populations Reports. Dr. Sherris has held teaching positions at Purdue University and at the secondary school level. She holds a PhD in science education, an MS in biology from Purdue University, and a BS in zoology from the University of Washington.

Dr. Sherris will begin transitioning to her new role on March 1.
