Amie Batson named to working group in child health
The MDG Health Alliance has named Amie Batson, PATH’s chief strategy officer, to a team dedicated to reducing deaths among young children.
The MDG Health Alliance collaborates with United Nations agencies, governments, the private sector, nonprofit organizations, and academic institutions to meet health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a set of eight objectives for ending extreme poverty by 2015.
To prevent childhood deaths
Batson has been named to the organization’s “child health pillar.” The group is charged with accelerating progress on MDG 4, which seeks to reduce deaths among children younger than five years old. The child health pillar will focus special attention on increasing private-sector donations to help achieve MDG 4.
Batson, who joins PATH this month, has extensive experience in child health. At the US Agency for International Development, she led the US government team in co-convening the Child Survival Call to Action, which launched a global effort to end preventable deaths among children. At the World Bank, she helped secure billions of dollars in financing for global health, which in turn helped fund vaccination for millions of children against polio, pneumonia, diarrhea, and other diseases.
