Statement on the influenza A(H1N1) virus–4/29/09

PATH is monitoring the influenza A(H1N1) virus situation closely and coordinating with our staff and partners around the world. At this time PATH operations have not been affected by the current outbreak. All PATH offices are open and our work continues.

Our thoughts are with the people in the affected regions and those in the regions where we work. In many cases they are the most vulnerable, as was highlighted by Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization:

“From past experience, we also know that influenza may cause mild disease in affluent countries, but more severe disease, with higher mortality, in developing countries.”
