Multilateral COVID-19 response

With well-established networks and expertise, PATH rapidly pivoted resources to respond to COVID-19, supporting local vaccine development, strengthening surveillance through an online tracking system, and improving availability of medical oxygen and respiratory equipment. PATH also worked closely with partners to shift to online order and delivery of antiretroviral drugs and HIV testing kits, ensuring continuity of HIV care throughout COVID-19 restrictions.

Human-centered care for NCDs

PATH prioritizes digital health innovations to increase health care access and affordability for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer or diabetes. Our unique approach brings together community participation, cross-sectoral collaboration, human-centered design, and social media to deliver sustainable, scalable NCD prevention programs.

Ending the HIV and TB epidemics

PATH in Vietnam works with local communities and the private sector to ensure the HIV and tuberculosis (TB) response meets the needs of populations facing the greatest risks. Together with partners such as the Vietnam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control and the Global Fund, we introduce innovative tools and approaches for prevention, detection, and treatment of HIV, TB, and viral hepatitis; build business capacity for community-based organizations to provide sustainable and client-centered services; and use social and behavior change communication to reach key affected populations. Our HIV/TB team does not fear disrupting the market—instead, we welcome the opportunity to challenge the status quo and redefine service delivery models.

Supporting immunization programs in Southeast Asia

Since 1994, PATH has been working with national immunization programs in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar for elimination of vaccine-preventable diseases, including hepatitis B, rotavirus, Japanese encephalitis, and seasonal and pandemic influenza. PATH’s strategy focuses on strengthening immunization systems and data, accelerating local vaccine production and introduction of new vaccines, expanding coverage of underutilized vaccines, and demonstrating innovations in vaccine supply chains, medical waste management, and immunization information systems. As a trusted partner of Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, we are now facilitating and supporting the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines and COVID-19 vaccine development.

Strengthening service models to achieve universal health coverage

We support Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, public and private partners, and communities to develop and implement models of decentralized testing, care, and treatment for HIV, TB, viral hepatitis, and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). Examples include HIV lay testing and self-testing, and community-based screening and treatment for NCDs and pediatric TB. Such models are critical to embedding essential health services into primary health care systems to accelerate the attainment of health for all.

Leading the region toward epidemic preparedness

Public health threats know no borders and neither do we. PATH in Vietnam is committed to accelerating action for stronger epidemic preparedness across the country and the region. By building on existing capacities, coordinating with regional partners, and developing sustainable digital models for epidemic preparedness, PATH leads global health security efforts in the region and provides technical support to neighboring countries to enhance health equities across Southeast Asia.

Enhancing quality of care to accelerate malaria elimination

We harness our 40+ years of expertise in Vietnam to analyze markets and catalyze interventions toward achieving sustainable access to affordable, quality-assured diagnostic tools and malaria treatment. PATH, in collaboration with Medicines for Malaria Venture, supports the National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology, and Entomology (NIMPE) in introducing new medicines and diagnostics for Plasmodium vivax malaria and integrating G6PD diagnostics into the National Strategic Plan for malaria. This work has led to an operations research study on G6PD diagnostics by PATH and NIMPE to promote the adoption of new diagnostics.
