Giving Back: Community Support for TB/HIV Treatment in Tanzania

In the fight against tuberculosis (TB) in Tanzania, PATH has been encouraging community members in several districts to take part in TB case detection. This story describes how one community member, Mohammed, has made a difference in Zanzibar. A former cocaine addict, Mohammed works at a recovery center for drug addicts. With training organized by PATH, he learned how to screen and refer people who may have TB; he also support patients during their treatment. Mohammed’s work is critical to the larger community, increasing diagnosis and treatment as well as awareness around TB and TB/HIV. This story is one of a series of success stories that showcase some of the ways that PATH’s work in TB is having an impact on people’s lives in a variety of settings around the world. This work was made possible through generous funding from the US Agency for International Development.
