
Johannes van Dam, MD, MSc
Dr. Johannes van Dam provides health program planning and health strategy development support to PATH’s Regional Hubs and Country Offices. Dr. van Dam also facilitates relationships between country programs and global technical leaders to ensure high levels of proposal and program quality to ensure PATH’s long-term impact.
Dr. van Dam joined PATH in 2016 and during his tenure has managed the organization’s health programs and oversaw the strategic growth of both our HIV/TB program and the Health Systems Innovation & Delivery program. Before joining PATH, Dr. van Dam was the Director of Program Sciences and Technical Support at FHI360. Previously, he led programs at Futures Group International (now Palladium) and the Population Council. Dr. van Dam also worked within the UN system (WHO, UNAIDS) for seven years.
Dr. van Dam has more than 30 years of experience in public health and operations research across four continents, with extensive background in partnerships with governments, civil society, donors, and researchers on a wide range of health issues, including HIV/AIDS, infectious and chronic diseases, health systems strengthening, reproductive health, and family planning.
Dr. van Dam serves on the editorial board of Studies in Family Planning, is a reviewer for the journal AIDS, and has authored several scientific journal articles and medical textbook content throughout his career. He holds an MS in Community Health in Developing Countries from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, an MD and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam, and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Royal Tropical Institute, the Netherlands.
