This editorial, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, comments on recent efficacy trials of rotavirus vaccine in South Africa and Malawi and a postmarketing study in Mexico. Based on the data, the author recommends the introduction of rotavirus vaccines in areas of high mortality from rotavirus infection, but also comments on several remaining challenges to implementing the use of rotavirus vaccines in the developing world.
