This article, published in FEMS Microbiology Reviews, reviews previous meningococcal carriage studies in European countries in order to learn more about the disease and the potential impact of mass vaccination with meningococcal vaccines. The authors conclude that while the current studies have provided valuable information on meningococcal disease, additional investigations of carriage are needed.
