Surveillance of Meningococcal Disease in Burkina Faso
This poster, presented at the 2008 International Pathogenic Neisseria Conference, displays the results of a study that gathered epidemiologic and laboratory data on meningitis cases in Burkina Faso, determined the causal pathogens of these cases, and evaluated any changes in the causal pathogen or meningococcal serogroup distribution and the impact of the nationwide conjugate meningococcal A vaccine campaigns. The study aimed to determine whether this case-based surveillance could provide valuable data to analyze epidemics and monitor the effectiveness of the new conjugate meningococcal A vaccine.
