Worldwide Implementation of Hepatitis B Vaccination of Newborns, 2006

This article, published in the Weekly Epidemiological Record, assesses the implementation of vaccination of newborns with hepatitis B vaccine by examining data from the 2006 World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF Joint Reporting Form. The findings show that in 2006, 84 percent of WHO Member States had introduced hepatitis B vaccine into their national infant immunization schedules and 42 percent reported using a schedule with a birth-dose of hepatitis B vaccine.
