Improving Global Health by Preventing Pneumococcal Disease

This report summarizes the results of a six-month inquiry by the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group for Pneumococcal Disease Prevention in the Developing World (APPG) on the global disease burden of pneumococcal disease and pneumonia, the interventions available to prevent and treat it, and an innovative pilot mechanism to accelerate its prevention called the Advance Market Commitment for pneumococcal vaccines. As part of this review, the APPG invited internationally recognized experts in fields relating to pneumococcal disease and pneumonia, health and immunization financing, pediatrics, immunology, global health, and international development to submit written evidence to the Group.
