Early Impact of Rotavirus Vaccination in Children Less Than Five Years of Age in Mozambique

This article, published in Vaccine, describes a study that aimed to evaluate the early impact of rotavirus vaccine in reducing all-cause diarrhea and rotavirus-specific hopsitalizations among children under five years of age in Mozamique following vaccine introduction. The authors collected and analyzed 1,296 stool samples from the National Surveillance for Acute Diarrhea program and found that rotavirus positivity dropped from 40.2 percent before vaccination to 12.2 percent after vaccination. The number of all-cause diarrhea hospitalizations also decreased among children under 11 months of age after vaccine introduction, suggesting that rotavirus vaccine is having a positive impact on the control of rotavirus diarrhea in Mozambique. ABSTRACT ONLY. (Learn how users in developing countries can gain free access to journal articles.)
