Potential Impact and Cost-Effectiveness of Rotavirus Vaccination in Afghanistan

This article, published in Vaccine, reports the results of a study that estimated the potential impact and cost-effectiveness of a national rotavirus vaccination program in Afghanistan. The authors examined the use of Rotarix® administered in a two-dose schedule at 6 and 10 weeks of age. They utilized the ProVac Initiative’s UNIVAC model to evaluate the impact and cost-effectiveness of a rotavirus vaccine program compared with no vaccine from 2017 to 2026. The results predict that rotavirus vaccination in Afghanistan would be highly cost-effective and even more so with a subsidy from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
