Polio Endgame & Legacy—Implementation, Best Practices, and Lessons Learned

This supplement issue of The Journal of Infectious Diseases contains 50 articles that together cover efforts by global partners to successfully launch polio endgame activities in alignment with the Polio Eradication and Endgame Strategic Plan, 2013–2018. The articles focus on two of the plan’s four objectives: introduction of inactivated poliovirus vaccine and initiating activities to transition polio resources, program experience, and lessons learned to other global health initiatives. The collective experience outlined in this supplement supports the view that the first phase of the polio endgame was successful, and provides a blueprint for future work by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative as it closes in on polio eradication and works to withdraw oral polio vaccine globally.
