WHO Consultation on Group B Streptococcus Vaccine Development: Report From a Meeting Held on 27-28 April 2016

This article, published in Vaccine, reports the outcome of a World Health Organization technical consultation that considered development pathways for group B Streptococcus (GBS) vaccines. The meeting discussed numerous topics, including disease pathophysiology; knoweldge gaps in global disease burden and serotype distribution; vaccine candidates in development; design considerations for Phase 3 trials; and policy recommendations and pathways to licensure. The authors note that efforts to address gaps in each of these areas are needed; in particular, more work is required to understand the global disease burden of GBS-associated stillbirths.
