Group B Streptococcal Vaccine for Resource-Poor Countries
This article, published in The Lancet, discusses maternal immunization's potential to protect neonates from infectious diseases such as group B Streptococcus. Neonatal deaths, which mostly occur in resource-poor countries during the first week of life, constitute 41 percent of the 8.8 million deaths in children younger than five years of age worldwide. The author argues that group B streptococcal vaccines are uniquely suited to maternal immunization. ABSTRACT ONLY. (Learn how users in developing countries can gain free access to journal articles.)
