One Size Does Not Fit All: The Impact of Primary Vaccine Container Size on Vaccine Distribution and Delivery

This article, published in Vaccine, reports that vaccine vial size—the total number of doses a single vaccine vial contains—can have a significant impact on vaccine distribution, costs, and use. The authors used the simulation modeling platform HERMES to estimate the impact of various vaccine vial sizes on the vaccine supply chain, including vaccine availability and costs. Their results show that one size may not fit all when choosing a primary vaccine container. Rather, the choice depends on characteristics of the vaccine, the vaccine supply chain, immunization session size, and goals of decision makers.
