How Can We Solve the Enigma of Influenza Vaccine-Induced Protection?

This commentary, published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases, provides the author's perspective on results from a prospective household cohort study conducted in Michigan, United States that generated influenza vaccine effectiveness estimates from a household cohort for the 2012–2013 influenza season. The results showed a detrimental effect of prior vaccination on current vaccine performance, which had also been demonstrated in this cohort in previous case-control studies.
