Japanese Encephalitis Vaccines: WHO Position Paper – February 2015

This article, published in the Weekly Epidemiological Record, provides an updated recommendation from the World Health Organization on the use of Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccines, replacing their earlier recommendation from 2006. The article focuses on new information concerning the availability, safety, immunogenicity, and effectiveness of JE vaccines and the duration of protection they confer. Recent data on global prevalence and burden of disease caused by JE and cost-effectiveness considerations regarding JE vaccination are also summarized.
