The Case for Developing and Deploying an Open Source Electronic Logistics Management Information System
This white paper makes the case for why logistics management information systems (LMIS) should be used to manage the distribution of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and medical products. Health information users and stakeholders in low- and middle-income countries can be successfully engaged in the application of an appropriate methodology to determine requirements for a health information system. Countries can then use those requirements to plan, secure funding, and source a solution that meets those requirements. This has led to the formation of OpenLMIS to help countries strengthen their supply chain and logistics systems by providing a global commons of shared knowledge, tools, and solutions regarding LMIS.
