The burden of dysentery due to shigellosis among children in the developing world is a major concern, but no licensed vaccine is available. This review article, published in Expert Review of Vaccines, provides an update on Shigella vaccine achievements focusing on subunit vaccine strategies and the forthcoming strategies surrounding this approach.
