Vaccines Against Influenza, WHO Position Paper – November 2012

This updated position paper from the World Health Organization (WHO), published in the Weekly Epidemiological Record, recommends that countries considering the initiation or expansion of seasonal influenza vaccination programs give the highest priority to pregnant women. WHO also states that additional risk groups to be considered for vaccination, in no particular order of priority, are: children aged 6 to 59 months; the elderly; individuals with specific chronic medical conditions; and healthcare workers. The article includes information about influenza disease burden, diagnosis, treatment, and vaccines.
