Haemophilus influenzae type b Conjugate Vaccines - WHO Position Paper

Designed for use by national public health officials and immunization program managers, this position paper provides a summary of essential background information on Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease and vaccines and outlines the current World Health Organization (WHO) position concerning the vaccines' use in a global context. The paper, published in Weekly Epidemiological Record, calls for the use of Hib vaccines in all infant immunization programs and states that the vaccine is the only public health tool capable of preventing the majority of cases of serious Hib disease. In 2013, the WHO issued an updated position paper on the use of Hib vaccines in childhood immunization programs, replacing this original recommendation.
