Human Papillomavirus Vaccines: WHO Position Paper

This article, published in the Weekly Epidemiological Record, is the first World Health Organization (WHO) position paper on vaccines against diseases caused by human papillomaviruses (HPV). It provides essential background information on HPV and gives the current WHO position concerning the use of the two HPV vaccines that are marketed internationally. In 2014, this recommendation was updated to address the number of doses of vaccine recommended for different age groups. In 2017, this recommendation was replaced again to include the 9-valent HPV vaccine and guidance on vaccine delivery strategies.
