2008 Estimate of Worldwide Rotavirus-Associated Mortality in Children Younger than 5 Years Before the Introduction of Universal Rotavirus Vaccination Programmes: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

This analysis, published in the The Lancet Infectious Diseases, applied data collected through the World Health Organization's Global Rotavirus Surveillance Network to update the estimate of childhood rotavirus mortality worldwide. The investigators determined that rotavirus is responsible for more than 450,000 annual deaths among children under five years of age, with most occurring in low-income countries of Africa and Asia.
