Global Production of Seasonal and Pandemic (H1N1) Influenza Vaccines in 2009-2010 and Comparison with Previous Estimates and Global Action Plan Targets

This article, published in Vaccine, summarizes results from a World Health Organization (WHO) survey assessing global influenza vaccine production in the context of the 2009 influenza A (H1N1) pandemic.  The authors compare results from this survey with the state of influenza vaccine production in 2006, when WHO developed its global action plan to increase influenza vaccine production and surge capacity in the event of a pandemic. The comparison showed influenza vaccine production in 2010 to have substantially increased from 2006, but elucidated that adequate vaccine production is still lacking in some regions. The authors recommend that efforts continue to establish more vaccine manufacturing capacity to meet global needs in a pandemic. ABSTRACT ONLY.
