Projecting Health: Two Case Studies on Empowering Local Community Health Workers to Improve Health Outcomes

Projecting Health is a PATH-led, innovative social and behavior change communication approach that gives communities in developing countries the skills and low-cost tools to produce scientifically accurate, engaging, and effective health education videos. This fact sheet tells the story of two community health workers, known as ASHAs, who show the videos and work with our target audiences in India.

Public-Private Mix for TB Control: Indian Chemists Join National Efforts to Find and Treat More Cases of TB

This project brief describes PATH’s contributions to developing public-private mix (PPM) approaches to TB control in India. With support from the United States Agency for International Development, PATH supported a PPM pilot project in Andhra Pradesh that aimed to train private chemists in identifying presumed TB cases and referring them to government diagnosis centers, promoting community awareness of TB prevention, and reducing the sale of TB drugs to persons without a prescription. This project provided valuable lessons and insights into applying PPM strategies to future TB control projects in India and elsewhere.

Increasing Vaccine Supply to Protect Against Influenza

This fact sheet describes a project that PATH is implementing in collaboration with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority within the US Department of Health and Human Services. The project is supporting the enhancement of sustainable influenza vaccine production in Vietnam. PATH is collaborating with various groups in Vietnam to facilitate the production and clinical evaluation of safe and effective influenza vaccines and synergizing activities with work already under way in Vietnam through the World Health Organization.

Saving Children Through Program and Policy Integration: A Peek Into PATH’s Coordinated Approach to Curbing Pneumonia and Diarrhea in Cambodia

PATH and our partners implemented the Enhanced Diarrheal Disease Initiative in 2011 to tackle the leading killers of Cambodian children under five years old: pneumonia and diarrheal disease. Tackling Pneumonia and Diarrheal Disease Through Program and Policy Coordination: A Case Study of PATH's Integrated Approach in Cambodia

Unplugged and Keeping Cool—Testing Off-Grid Vaccine Storage Solutions in Vietnam

Keeping heat-sensitive vaccines at the right temperature is crucial yet often difficult in areas with limited or no electrical power. Project Optimize collaborated with the Vietnam National Expanded Programme on Immunization to evaluate two technologies to respond to this challenge. One was a direct-drive solar refrigerator and the other a passive cooling device. This fact sheet describes the lessons learned from the demonstration—information which can be used by other country programs considering these devices for long-term storage of vaccines.

Vietnam’s Immunization Registries Go Online

In Vietnam, project Optimize worked with government and software partners to help introduce a digital immunization registry. This brief describes how the registry allowed the health system to better track children due for vaccination and shortened the time required for recording and reporting immunizations compared to the existing paper-based registry.

HPV Vaccination in Southeast Asia: Lessons Learned From a Pilot Program in Vietnam

This report summarizes the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program implemented in Vietnam by PATH, the Vietnam National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, and the Vietnam National Center for Health Education and Communication through the HPV Vaccines: Evidence for Impact project. The purpose of the study was to investigate operational issues related to HPV vaccination of young adolescent girls, aimed at identifying effective and cost-effective strategies. This report interprets the results and summarizes helpful lessons for policymakers and program managers, especially those in Southeast Asia, looking to shape their own HPV vaccination programs. PATH’s Integrated Approach to Reducing Diarrheal Disease in Cambodia: Combining Prevention and Treatment

This fact sheet summarizes the PATH Safe Water Project's work in Cambodia to integrate prevention and treatment options for diarrheal disease. By harnessing successes from one prevention-focused project (microfinance loans for household water filters) and one treatment-focused program (oral rehydration solution and zinc), the project streamlined community strategies and increased overall efficiency for better results. Key to this effort were the local, village health volunteers whom PATH trained to educate and empower Cambodian women to successfully protect their families from the dangers of diarrheal disease.

Keeping Track of Vietnam's Vaccines
