PATH’s Integrated Approach to Reducing Diarrheal Disease in Cambodia: Combining Prevention and Treatment

This fact sheet summarizes the PATH Safe Water Project's work in Cambodia to integrate prevention and treatment options for diarrheal disease. By harnessing successes from one prevention-focused project (microfinance loans for household water filters) and one treatment-focused program (oral rehydration solution and zinc), the project streamlined community strategies and increased overall efficiency for better results. Key to this effort were the local, village health volunteers whom PATH trained to educate and empower Cambodian women to successfully protect their families from the dangers of diarrheal disease.

Pilot Introduction of Oxytocin in Uniject® During Active Management of the Third Stage of Labor (AMTSL) at the Institutional Level in Guatemala

This report shares the results of a pilot introduction of oxytocin in the Uniject® device for use with active management of the third stage of labor that was conducted at the institutional level in Guatemala in 2009. Results include details on the feasibility of introducing oxytocin in Uniject in this context as well as the acceptability of this technology among health care providers and facility managers. Pilot Use of Oxytocin in a Uniject™ Device for AMTSL in Mali

This report describes use of the Uniject™ device prefilled with 10 international units (IU) of oxytocin for actively managing the third stage of labor in selected health centers in Mali. Although this single-dose, autodisable injection device has previously been used for tetanus toxoid vaccination in Mali, the Ministry of Health lacked documentation of the safety and feasibility of using the device to deliver oxytocin for active management of the third stage of labor (AMTSL).

Postpartum Hemorrhage Prevention and Treatment Website

Launched in 2005, the Postpartum Hemorrhage Prevention and Treatment website describes the work of the USAID-funded Prevention of Postpartum Hemorrhage Initiative (POPPHI) Project. The project's goal was to expand active management of the third stage of labor as a means to reduce postpartum hemorrhage, the single most important cause of maternal deaths worldwide. In addition to information about the project itself, the website offers a collection of information and resources related to postpartum hemorrhage and how to save women's lives through use of active management of the third stage of labor.

Practical Selection of Neonatal Resuscitators, Version 3: A Field Guide

PATH has evaluated a variety of reusable neonatal resuscitators, including both bag-and-mask and tube-and-mask designs. This guide is divided into two sections: the first identifies resuscitators that are priced at less than US$30 each, and the second identifies those that are priced at more than $30 each. It also describes the criteria used during the device evaluation, evaluation results for each device, and suggestions for choosing a resuscitator. The guide is available in two formats: one for booklet-style printing and one for onscreen viewing.

Practical Selection of Neonatal Resuscitators: Southern African Development Community

PATH conducted a market study in 2008 to identify neonatal resuscitators available in the Southern African Development Community region. These resuscitators are included in this region-specific version of Practical Selection of Neonatal Resuscitators. All resuscitators identified were bag-and-mask designs. Also included are two devices that offer a tube-and-mask design. This guide presents the criteria used during the device evaluation, evaluation results for each device, and suggestions for choosing a resuscitator.
