Tackling the Biggest Maternal Killer: How the Prevention of Postpartum Hemorrhage Initiative Strengthened Efforts Around the World

The Prevention of Postpartum Hemorrhage Initiative (POPPHI), funded by USAID, developed this document to summarize the projects and activities that took place over its five-year history. The report focuses on the challenge of postpartum hemorrhage and the mechanisms developed by POPPHI to address it. It also provides an overview of the tools, including resources and policy changes, that were accomplished. Finally, the document also highlights specific work done by PATH, its partners, and the POPPHI team in scale-up and small grant countries. The report is available as one large file or as four smaller files for easier downloading.

UN Commission on Life-Saving Commodities Technical Reference Team Briefs

The UN Commission on Life-Saving Commodities for Women and Children (the Commission) was formed in 2012 by the UN Secretary-General as a part of the Every Woman Every Child movement. The Commission’s framework for action outlines a priority list of 13 commodities and 10 cross-cutting recommendations to rapidly increase access and use. To help carry forward the Commission’s recommendations at the global and national levels, Global Technical Reference Teams (TRT) were established. One group was formed for each of the 13 commodities and 10 recommendations, and an advocacy working group is dedicated to advancing their cross-cutting goals. The advocacy working group, convened by PATH, developed a series of briefs highlighting the major goals, challenges, and activities of each TRT.

Understanding Why Women Adopt and Sustain Home Water Treatment: Insights From Qualitative Research in Malawi

PATH’s Safe Water Project is implementing innovative methods to enable commercial enterprises to produce, distribute, sell, and maintain effective household water treatment and safe storage products for low-income populations in multiple developing countries around the world. This poster summarizes the findings of PATH's work with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to investigate the effects of an innovative program that promoted a chlorine disinfectant for treatment of water at home to pregnant women seeking antenatal care. This poster was presented at the Water and Health: Where Science Meets Policy conference hosted by the University of North Carolina Water Institute in October 2011.
