- South Africa Policy Brief: Expanding Contraceptive Options for Women
The SILCS diaphragm expands women’s options for nonhormonal contraception. Research also has shown the feasibility of SILCS as a multipurpose prevention technology (MPT) by delivering a microbicide gel. This policy brief from MatCH Research Unit outlines the case for SILCS introduction in South Africa to improve women’s reproductive health options.

- Acceptability of Microarray Patches for Delivery of HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Among Women and Health Care Providers in South Africa
As part of PATH’s work in vaccine and pharmaceutical delivery technologies, this poster presents results from a user-acceptability study of two microarray patches (MAPs) in South Africa. The MAPs under assessment were designed for the self-administration of antiretrovirals, such as rilpilvirine, and may someday offer a discreet and effective form of PrEP protection for women at risk of HIV.

- Vaginal Applicator Development for Delivery of Microarray Patches Containing Rilpivirine for HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis
As part of PATH’s work in vaccine and pharmaceutical delivery technologies, this poster highlights PATH’s four-phase approach to designing a dissolvable microarray patch (MAP) for vaginal delivery of rilpivirine. In addition, the poster discusses the ways by which the approach has helped to define design requirements for an effective and discreet method (i.e., applicator) for delivering the long-lasting rilpivirine MAP for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis.

- Target Product Profile: HIV Self-Test Version 4.1: A White Paper on the Evaluation of Current HIV Rapid Tests and Development of Core Specifications for Next-Generation HIV Tests
This annotated target product profile (TPP) describes the desired characteristics of an HIV self-test and is a result of a review of currently available literature, interviews with key informants/stakeholders, laboratory-generated data on the performance of rapid tests, and early usability studies in Kenya, Malawi, and South Africa. The purpose of the TPP is to provide a common foundation for the development of HIV self-tests that contains sufficient detail to allow device developers and key stakeholders to understand the characteristics a test must have to be successful.
