Providing strategic guidance to our work in vaccine development
PATH’s work on developing vaccines against pneumococcal disease is guided by a scientific advisory board. We invited key experts to join the advisory board to provide strategic input in conducting a process of technology evaluation, selection, and prioritization for project support. We then began collaborating with private- and public-sector partners to advance the development of several of the most promising vaccine candidates. The board continues to play a key role in this process, meeting regularly to discuss the vaccine portfolio and address technical issues, review data and progress made to-date, and provide recommendations on issues as they arise.
The following is a list of the scientific advisory board members for the pneumococcal vaccine development project:
- Milan Blake, MD, Director, Division of Bacterial, Parasitic and Allergenic Products, US Food and Drug Administration
- David Briles, PhD, Professor of Microbiology, University of Alabama at Birmingham
- George Carlone, MD, Supervisor, Vaccinology Laboratories, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- George Curlin, MD, MPH, Medical Officer, US National Institutes of Health
- Keith Klugman, MD, PhD, William H. Foege Chair and Professor, Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health
